The Robotech show was created from the gathering of 3 japanese shows : Macross, The Southern Cross, and Mospeada. When adapted in the USA, the 3 shows were partially re-written so that the three of them would fit into a larger story involving several generations.

The plot opposes the human forces to the zentraedii; an alien race breeded for war, eager to conqueer the remains of an alien technology that once crashed on earth in the shape of a giant space-fortress.

Below are pictures of various MACROSS/Robotech mechas, taken for models boxes.

    The SDF-1 (Macross)
The SDF-1 (Super Dimensional Fortress) is the human motherspace. This vessel is originally named "SDF-1 Macross" in the Japanese show, and it's name was shortened to "SDF-1" for the Robotech show, where the name "Macross" is re-used as the name of the island where this fortress crashes on earth.
As Macross was a show about transforming mechas, the SDF-1 also has a shape-shifing ability. It has both a "battleship" form and a "humanoid" form, the latter is represented on the picture.
Being a *giant* spacefortress, it's robot shape is also giant : with it's 1210 meters height, it's definitely the biggest vaguely-humanoid robot in all the anime history!

    Destroid Spartan
    UN Spacy/Human forces

The DESTROID SPARTAN is a heavy armored assault robot. Destroids are a range of heavy robots that look quite different from the VF-1 fighters (see the models page for a view of the destroids with VF fighters).
They are heavier, more resistant and more powerful, but thus less effective in high speed fights. Also, none of the DESTROID-type machine can fly.
The SPARTAN is about 15 meters high.

    Destroid Monster Mark II
    UN Spacy/Human forces

The DESTROID MONSTER Mark II is the largest and heaviest human mecha.
    Tech specs say :
    height : 23.4 m
    width/length : 24m/41m
    weight : 285.5 tons (ain't that heavy?! :)

This is a rare piece i'm glad i have in my collection! I haven't built it yet, though.

    Zentraedii fleet
The Zentraedii is an alien that seem to have been designed for war. Although they are giant humanoids, the were apparently breeded from a "human size" race. Being designed with war in mind, they completely forgot about their emotions, so mankind soon discovered a surprising weapon against them : a song. The confusion created by their inner emotions when hearing the song drastically weaken their battle skills.
In the later "Macross +" OAV, the ennemy alien race learned how to make profit out of these emotions, and use their own singer/priestess to motivates their troops with war-songs.
The Zentraedi fleet is properly amazing : thousands of giant motherships, each of them carrying even more fighters... Here's what their equipment look like :

    TACTICAL POD GLAUG
    Zentraedii fleet

    This is a commander-type fighter.

    16.55m height, 41.2 tons

    QUEADLUUN RAU
    Zentraedii fleet, female army

Males and females are separated in the Zentraedii society.
This machine is an female battle armor. It's one of the greatest mechas in all Japanime history, in my opinion!
The look of it is both alien and realistic, agressive and functionnal...

    Tech specs :
    height : 16.75 meters
    weight : 31.5 tons
